On June 1st, 2024, collaborating with Laura de la Rosa (Past Secretary of East Portal Bocce Club and Cancer Thriver) and the American Cancer Society, the East Portal Bocce Club hosted a Fundraiser Bocce Tournament supporting the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness. This tournament was open to the public and the tournament was a raging success! The Club donated the use of the courts and made a cash donation of $500 towards this wonderful organization.
The Board of Directors, on behalf of all our club members, would like to thank Laura for coordinating this event and we look forward to more tournaments in the future with them, supporting such an important and worthy cause!
On Monday, March 27, 2023, EPBC President Jay James addressed the Monday League Teams and shared his thoughts at the start of the 2023 Winter/Spring League.
Good evening, my fellow East Portal Bocce Club members! I want to start by extending a warm welcome to all of you as we kick off the 2023 Bocce season.
As you all know, we've had a bit of a rough time getting to this point. This year's storms wreaked havoc on our beloved bocce courts, and the road to repairing them was a long and arduous one. We had to work extensively with the City of Sacramento to get the repairs we needed, and it wasn't always easy. But we persevered, and we are now able to once again enjoy the sport we all love on courts that are safe and functional.
It's easy to feel frustrated when we encounter obstacles like these. It's natural to wonder if all the effort is worth it. But I want to remind you that our bocce club is about more than just playing the game. It's about community, and it's about coming together to overcome challenges. We showed that in spades during our engagement with the City, and I'm proud of each and every one of you for standing by our club and supporting our cause.
Now, as we embark on a new league season, let's remember that we are stronger together. Let's continue to build our community, both on and off the courts. Let's work together to make this the best league season yet.
So once again, welcome to the 2023 Bocce league season. Let's play some bocce!
At the January 2023 EPBC Board Meeting, Jay James officially took over the gavel from past President Romano Luchini as our new 2023 East Portal Bocce Club President.

At the December 2022 EPBC Board Meeting, Romano was honored for his leadership and dedication by the Board of Directors.
Romano was instrumental in coordinating and deploying enhancements to our club and its facilities over the last five years where he proudly served as our Club President.
Although Romano is stepping down as President, he will still play a vital role in the club as our Facilities Manager. In this position, Romano will oversee the maintenance of the courts and will serve as our liaison for the court rentals to our community.
Thank you Romano for your past and continued dedication to our Bocce Club.
With sincere thanks,
Directors and Members of the East Portal Bocce Club
